Sta.
monica
National
high school
Historical Background of
Sta. Monica National High School
Sta. Monica
National High School is located in a one-hectare lot owned by the Sta. Monica
Elementary School. The school is almost twelve kilometers away from the
Division Office of Bulacan and two kilometers away from the town proper. It is
being bounded in the North by a properly owned by the Bernando family; in the
East, by the Pampanga river; in the South, by the Morales family and in the
west, by the provincial road. It is strategically situated north of Hagonoy and
is accessible to all means of transportation and communication.
This High School
started in June 1992 with the enrollment of 72 students. Through the concerted
efforts of then Mayor Wilhelmino M. Sy Alvarado, Barangay Chairman Leopoldo A.
Medina, the late Opheia A. Lacas, former District Supervisor, and then OIC,
late Mr. Antonio L. Tamayo.
Some teachers from Ramana Trillana High School such
as the late Rosario R. Tamayo, Mrs. Aladia Baquiran, Mr. Efren Santiago and
teachers from Iba National High School such as Mr. Arthur Haggins, Mrs. Cecilia
Caballero and the volunteer teacher Ms. Benita Garcia now Mrs. Benita Samia
offered their services.
The enrollment tremendously increased at present
from 72 students (1992) to 1,708 (2014) with 72 teachers, 1 Guidance Counselor
and 2 administrative assistants.
With the barangay hall as its first classroom,
located then in the elementary compound, its physical progress is now evident.
The building constructed came from
municipal, provincial and national government. At
present SMNHS has 47 functional classrooms including office of the Principal,
Guidance Counselor’s Office, School Library, Computer room and a Faculty room.
The dream of the
school administration, faculty and PTA is now partly realized. They
optimistically are looking to serve more students in the near future. Such is
possible because of the 1,787 square meter lot – generously donated by the
Suntay family at Purok 9 Sta. Monica Hagonoy, Bulacan. A one unit 2 storey 8
classroom building (2002) was constructed in such acquired lot thru the efforts
of Governor Josie M. Dela Cruz and Vice Governor Rely Plamenco in coordination
of Mayor Felix V. Ople. Fortunately a 2 storey 4 classroom building was also
constructed (2006) where third year students were transferred there
(2009-2012). Now, we have twenty one (21) classrooms in SMNHS (Main) and twenty
six (26) classroom in SMNHS (Extension- Dr. Federico C. Suntay Memorial
National High School). Two of them were constructed in 2007 and another two classrooms
were completed in 2008. Through the generosity of Cong. Marivic R. Sy Alvarado
another two classrooms were added. Another four in 2011 and additional four
classrooms in 2013 through the unsurpassed effort of DepEd and Provincial
Government respectively.
In this time, we
can say without hesitation that SMNHS Extension is a dream turned to reality.
Reflection for the Site
of
Practice Teaching
Sta. Monica National High School
(SMNHS) is the counterpart of Mayor Ramona S. Trillana High School in this part
of Hagonoy. Most of the people here are poor farmers dreaming of acquire higher
education, few kilometers away from the town proper, the people inhabitants try
to employ modern ways of learning.
The
school in SMNHS extension, they know that this is build a little year ago only
that’s why they lack of facilities, lack of student to undergo in educating.
But now 4 buildings are build to help the people or the student to study in
this school. Now in the K12 Curriculum every school have a Senior high school
students like in the Sta. Monica National High, school they have a Senior high
school student but a limited courses only.
Nowadays,
the SMNHS (Extension) are beautiful because the successful people behind there
are always there to take care and to rise the school not only the school but
also the student to mold their strength, power and also their dreams that’s
want to be a reality someday.
